What you should know about transponder keys

A transponder key has a small chip inside the head of the key. When you turn the ignition (or push start), your car's computer queries the chip. If the response doesn't match what's on file, the engine won't start — even if the blade fits.

Programming a new key means writing your vehicle's unique immobilizer code to the chip and registering it with the engine control module. It requires the right diagnostic tool for your make and model and the correct chip type. We only route your job to a partner who handles your specific vehicle.
